Ross Park Zoo open on the weekends during the winter
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- Ross Park Zoo in Binghamton will remain open all year round.
During the winter months, it will only be open on the weekends. The Ross Park Zoo’s Facebook page stated it will close when the forecasted high temperature is lower than 30 degrees.
To keep visitors warm, they have installed five patio heaters throughout the zoo that were purchased with grant money.
Another place guests could keep warm during a winter visit is where the porcupines, three-banded armadillo and sloth live, the New World Tropics Center which is always set to 80 degrees.
According to Ross Park Zoo Executive Director Phillip Ginter, most of the species in the zoo thrive in the winter months like the snow leopard and the red pandas.
Gates at the zoo open at 10 a.m. The last tickets are sold at 2 p.m.
School or private events of more than 10 people are available to schedule private tours of the zoo Monday to Friday.
During the winter months, the zoo is offering off-season admission prices of $7 per person.
The zoo said it will be closed Jan. 15 and 16 due to the cold weather.
