TOWN OF CHENANGO (WBNG) -- One person has been arrested after a fatal stabbing in the Town of Chenango.

According to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Jan. 14, the Broome County Sheriff’s office was dispatched to an apartment complex at 9 Kattelville Road in the Town of Chenango around 6:40 P.M.

When officers arrived, 20-year-old Crishtian Smith-Bartlett was located in the parking lot of the complex on his knees with his hands in the air. Smith-Bartlett was immediately detained and placed in a patrol car.

Deputies were then directed to a unit in the complex where 29-year-old Randy Glezen of Lisle, New York was unresponsive with multiple serious and life-threatening injuries.

An uninvolved neighbor and deputies attempted life-saving efforts until emergency medical personnel arrived on scene. Despite life-saving efforts, Glezen died from his injuries.

After an investigation, police determined that Glezen’s 27-year-old sister who lived in the unit with her 2-year-old daughter was in a personal relationship with Smith-Bartlett.

Glezen arrived at the apartment with another family member after hearing about a domestic dispute that happened earlier in the night. Glezen and Smith-Bartlett immediately engaged in a physical altercation.

Smith-Bartlett was armed with a machete and struck Glezet with it before losing control of the machete. He then armed himself with a large kitchen knife and stabbed Glezen numerous times in the abdomen and back.

Glezen’s sister also sustained physical injury to her arm during the altercation.

Smith-Bartlett was charged with 2nd degree murder and 2nd degree assault. He was turned over to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Correctional Division and is awaiting arraignment.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the New York State Police and the Binghamton police Crime Scene Unit.
