Owego Apalachin students can plan beyond graduation with the help of the new ‘OA Career Center’
OWEGO (WBNG) -- Students and families in the Owego Apalachin School District who looking to plan their futures after high school now have the school’s new OA Career Center as a resource.
The OA Career Center, located on the first floor of Owego Free Academy, will partner with surrounding businesses and serve as a tool for students to explore jobs and career opportunities.
The Owego Apalachin Central School District and the Tioga County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the official opening of the OA Career Center on Thursday morning.
Students and their families will be able to learn more about the options they have after they graduate such as the military or colleges and scholarships while getting first-hand experiences in interviewing, job shadowing and internships.
Tioga County Supervisor Jackie Burdick said this is a chance to keep the children in the community as they grow.
“It’s extremely important that we bring the two sides together,” said Burdick. “Bridging what the employer is looking for and what actually the school is promoting and teaching the kids.”
