BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies put the tying run on base in the ninth but could not capitalize as the Akron RubberDucks won 5-3 on Wednesday night.

The ‘Ducks added two runs in the first with an RBI single from Will Brennan, his 35th of the season. Brayan Rocchio scored later in the inning on a throwing error.

Wyatt Young tied things up in the second with a two-run triple to centerfield that brought in Zach Ashford and Matt Winaker. It was Young’s first two RBIs as a member of the Rumble Ponies.

Akron answered right back in the third with a George Valera RBI double and Jose Tena RBI single off Alec Kisena (1-4) to make it 4-2 RubberDucks. Julian Escobedo added a solo shot off in the sixth and the lead increased to 5-2. It was Escobedo’s second home run of the season.

A double into right-centerfield and a stolen base from Jake Mangum in the sixth led to an RBI single from Ashford and the Ponies cut the Akron lead to 5-3. The Ponies started off the ninth with back-to-back singles from Young and Francisco Alvarez but a double-play ball from Brett Baty and strikeout from Ronny Mauricio ended the comeback bid.
