BINGHAMTON (WBNG) - Binghamton High School’s unified basketball team played its finals game today against Norwich.

The Binghamton High School unified basketball team is currently undefeated, but the team’s success on the court is only the start.

Through the program, established at B.H.S. in 2020, student athletes and student athletes with special needs play basketball together against other schools around the area.

12 News spoke with Tina Zdimal and John Sweeney from Binghamton High School about the players and their experience.

“They love coming to the games. They love seeing their former teachers show up and support them, and district-wide it has been very supportive,” said Zdimal.

“They are really excited, sometimes on game day its actually hard to get them to concentrate on anything else. They just cant wait for the game, its really been a tremendously positive force for them,” said Sweeney.

The program not only teaches players the fundamentals of the sport, but also, an important lesson about inclusiveness, friendship, and understanding.
