Chenango Forks boys’ lacrosse makes first-ever state title appearance after defeating Akron in Class D semis
CORTLAND, N.Y. (WBNG) - The Chenango Forks Blue Devils boys’ lacrosse team is heading to the state championship after a convincing 20-13 win over Section 6′s Akron Tigers. This will be Forks’ first appearance in the state title game in the program’s history.
After falling behind 2-1 early in the first, the Blue Devils went on a tear, scoring seven unanswered goals, and entering the second quarter up 9-3.
The goals didn’t stop coming, the four-headed attack of Caden Olmstead, Tyler Hayes, Rick Attleson, and Zander Arnold led the way for Forks. The foursome accounted for nearly all the team’s first-half goals, as the Blue Devils took a 17-6 lead into halftime.
Akron was able to claw back into it in the second half, but the Forks’ lead proved insurmountable. Chenango Forks took the semifinal, 20-13.
“It means the world to us,” said Olmstead. “We’re just going on to the next game. I’m trying not to get too excited since we’re trying to reach that end goal and win the state final, but man it’s awesome.”
“I usually get nervous before games but we were all calm cool and collected this game. We came out and got the job done. Nothing more you can ask for,” Hayes said.
Chenango Forks will now play Section 8′s Cold Spring Harbor for the Class D State Championship. That game will be this Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m. from Hofstra University.
