Deposit-Hancock baseball advances to Class D State Championship with win over Crown Point
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) - Caden Fortunato tossed seven scoreless innings, and the Deposit-Hancock batters gave him plenty of run support, as the D-H Eagles are headed to the Class D state title game after taking down Crown Point 15-0.
It was a fast-moving game through the first four innings, with just three hits and one run between the two teams. The Eagles scored in the top half of the first and then no offensive production from either dugout.
Then in the fifth, the Eagles’ bats got going. Starting with an inside-the-park homerun from leadoff man Chris Gross to give Deposit-Hancock a 2-0 lead. And the runs kept coming. Before the dust settled, D-H dropped six runs in the frame to take a 7-0 advantage.
Fortunato continued to pitch well, striking out double-digit Crown Point batters and keeping them off the board.
More runs came in the seventh inning. Deposit-Hancock scored eight more in the top half to take a commanding 15-0 lead, which proved to be the final score. Every player on D-H’s roster made an appearance in the win.
The Eagles turn their focus to the Class D Championship tomorrow against Chapel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Binghamton University.
