Preparations underway for Owego’s 40th annual Strawberry Festival
OWEGO (WBNG) -- Preparations are underway for the 40th annual Strawberry Festival in Owego.
After a two-year hiatus, Downtown Owego is preparing for the two-day event.
Village of Owego Mayor Mike Baratta said the festival is one of Owego’s biggest events, and crews are working to clean the downtown area all week long.
Baratta said along with street cleaning and moving, the village is preparing for a busy weekend.
“The festival is put on by Historic Owego Marketplace which is an association of the shops downtown, but we support them with cleaning up the village, closing up the streets and security,” Baratta said. “We have a whole safety plan which is something we’ve done for a number of years as far as with our police department and fire department.”
The festival begins Friday, June 17 from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. and ends with a firework show.
On Saturday, the day kicks off with a parade at 10 a.m., followed by entertainment, vendors, food, crafts and more.
