Exclusive first look: Broadway in Binghamton announces 2022-2023 season
BINGHAMTON (WBNG) -- During Broadway in Binghamton’s 2021-2022 season, theater lovers in the Southern Tier got to have a cheeseburger in paradise (Escape to Margaritaville), watch an oscar-winning romance take the stage (Officer and a Gentlemen), learn about the life and legacy of Donna Summer (Summer: The Donna Summer Musical), watch a waitress turned soon-to-be mom fight for her future (Waitress), and see how the candy man can (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).
“To have had the arts gone for almost two years and come back, people were celebrating! People were happy to be out, they were happy to be in the theater,” said NAC Entertainment President Albert Nocciolino.
Nocciolino said having the arts back meant revving the economic engines in the community.
“When we go to the arts we spend our money,” said Nocciolino, “We eat in our restaurants, park in our parking lots, stay in our hotels, and that starts to manifest itself and the multiplier effect is huge.”
Now for their next season, he said there is a lot to look forward to:
Fiddler on the Roof: ”We kick off with one of the great classics and a family show, Fiddler on the Roof. It’s just a celebration of life, the relationships between fathers and daughters and mothers and celebrating family.”
Legally Blonde: “Speaking of fun, Legally Blonde! It’s the story of Elle Woods, who goes after her dreams despite the challenges and accomplishes so much.”
Anastasia: “A new one based on the movie, Anastasia. It takes place after the Russian empire and Anya runs to Paris and it tells that whole controversial story, but a beautiful musical and again a family show.”
Cats: “One that has had more than nine lives and has been back here several times which now falls in the classic category after 30 years is Cats. We’re thrilled to be bringing it back.”
On Your Feet: “One that I’m really excited about, the story of Gloria and Emilio Estefan, On Your Feet, It’s just a wonderfully beautiful story of them making it together.”
There will also be two season specials including the Buddy Holly Story and Stomp!
“I think this is a real combination of what we strive to do, and that’s bring something for everyone and hopefully that’s what we’ve done this year.”
