Rumble Ponies come back late to beat Reading 7-6 and get fourth straight win
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies staged a late comeback to beat the Reading Fightin’ Phils 7-6 and take four of six games in their series.
The comeback got started in the bottom of the seventh when Carlos Cortes hit an RBI single to put the Ponies on the board. Then, Wyatt Young had a two-RBI triple that made the game 6-3.
In the eighth, Ronny Mauricio got the scoring started again with an RBI single to score Brandon McIlwain. Later in the inning, Cortes gave Binghamton their first lead of the game with a three-run homer that made it 7-6.
Binghamton trailed early after Reading plated four runs off RBI hits by Jack Conley, Kevin Vicuna, and Wendell Rijo. The Fightin’s then extended their lead to six in the top of the seventh when Aldrem Corredor hit a two-RBI double.
The Rumble Ponies will return to action on Tuesday when they begin a series in Hartford against the Yard Goats. New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer will make his second rehab start with the team as he continues to return from a strained oblique. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford, CT on Tuesday.
