Two local Laundry Love locations available to help with laundry costs
ENDICOTT (WBNG) - The Laundry Love initiative, which is a nationwide effort, aims to help low-income and no-income families or individuals with their laundry costs.
“No matter where you come from, or what you believe, or where you grew up, or any of that kind of stuff, everybody has laundry, everybody has to wash,” said Volunteer Coordinator Amber Jennings with Laundry Love.
At the local level, there are two participating laundromats thanks to New Life Ministeries: SmartWash in Endicott and SmartWash in Binghamton.
The Endicott Laundry Love site has been around since April 2021, but Jennings talked about how the national assistance came about back in 2003. Jennings said a man named T-Bone, or Eric, once said, “I think if I had clean clothes, people would treat me like a human being.” Currently, over 300 Laundry Love locations exist.
Jennings said at its core, Laundry Love is a twofold mission. “There’s the providing quarters part. And that, people say, every month is a huge blessing to them. On the other side, we’re also looking to provide conversation, and build relationships, and make your wash day a little bit brighter,” she said.
Looking ahead to the next one in July, anyone can participate. “Even people who come into the laundromat and they aren’t aware of the service,” said Jennings.
When it comes to the monthly opportunity at both locations, it happens during the fourth Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. or while supplies last. The next date for assistance is Saturday, July 23. Residents have a limit of five loads per family.
