Rumble Ponies bats fall silent in shut out loss to Erie
ERIE, Pa. (WBNG) - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies could only muster three hits over the course of Tuesday night’s game, as the Erie SeaWovles took game one of the six-game set, 4-0, for the Ponies’ seventh straight loss.
Binghamton starting pitcher Jesus Vargas retired fifteen straight batters spanning from the third through eighth innings. In that stretch, Vargas had four consecutive 1-2-3 frames. He takes the loss despite allowing only two earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.
Erie did get two runs in the second off Vargas with the bases loaded on a two-run single from Eric De La Rosa. After Vargas left the game, the SeaWolves added two in the eighth, on catcher’s interference and a bases-loaded walk.
SeaWolves starter Wilmer Flores pitched three scoreless and hitless frames. Adam Wolf got the win allowing just two hits over three innings in relief of Flores.
The two teams continue their series on Wednesday evening with first pitch at 6:05 PM
