Broome County Assistant Public Defender wins state award for commitment to field
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WBNG) -- A Broome County Assistant Public Defender won a state award for his dedication to the field last week.
Assistant Public Defender Jon Rothermel was recognized with the Kevin M. Anderson award. The award is presented to attorneys who have worked less than 15 years and showcase an outstanding level of justice and determination and are willing to help their peers. The award was presented to Rothermel on July 26.
“I am honored to receive this year’s Kevin M. Andersen Award,” said Rothermel in a news release. “While I was chosen for the award this year, we all deserve recognition for the hard work we do, for the compassion we show our clients and the determination with which we do it. Public Defenders across this country work tirelessly to protect and defend the rights of their clients, to address their needs, and to make them feel heard.”
The Kevin M. Anderson award was created by the Genesee County Public Defender’s Office and is presented during the New York State Defenders Association annual conference.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar shared his congratulations to Rothermel in the news release.
“The Broome County Public Defender’s Office is fortunate to have such a dedicated team that includes Jon and so many others that work day in and day out to help everyone they serve,” Garnar said.
