First case of monkeypox reported in Tioga County

TIOGA COUNTY (WBNG) - The Tioga County Public Health Department has confirmed its first case of monkeypox. The department confirms this is an isolated case and there are no associated close contacts.

The department also says there is no health risk to the general public at this time.

If you are concerned about your risk to monkeypox or if you’re experiencing symptoms, contact your primary care provider.

Symptoms of monkeypox include:

- Rashes, bumps, or blisters on or around the genitals or in other areas like hands, feet, or face, which are not clearly due to something else

- Swollen lymph glands

- Potential flu-like symptomsl like a fever, aches and pains, fatigue, and/or chills
