Deputies make arrest after 3 county motorcycle chase

SMITHVILLE, N.Y. (WBNG) -- According to the Chenango County Sheriffs Office, on Aug. 15, the deputies were involved in a vehicle pursuit with a motorcycle.

The pursuit began in the Town of Smithville and traveled through Cortland County then into Broome County, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said the suspect jumped off his motorcycle and a short foot pursuit occurred on State Hwy 79 in Whitney Point.

The driver, Austin Demuth was taken into custody. Demuth was transported to Wilson Hospital with minor injuries that occurred during the foot pursuit, police said.

Demuth was charged for unlawful fleeing, obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree, resisting arrest and numerous traffic violations.

The sheriff’s office noted that Demuth also had a warrant out of the Town of Norwich Court and had recently been released on his own recognizance for numerous felony charges.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Police Binghamton.
