Highlights: 1st round of the DICK’s Open

ENDICOTT, NY (WBNG) -- The first round of the DICK’s Open for the PGA Tour Champions took place Friday at En-Joie Golf Club.

Highlights include shots from Australian golfer Steve Allen, two-time defending DICK’s Open champion Pádraig Harrington, “Long John” John Daly, two-time Masters champion Bernhard Langer, most recent tour winner Ernie Els, Pennsylvania golfer Rocco Mediate, and Canadian golfer Stephen Ames.

12 Sports spoke with Ames and Mediate after their first-round performances.

“You can kill yourself by missing a lot of fairways on par fours,” said Ames. “So, I think it’s overall, it is very much a ball striker’s golf course. You have to keep the ball in play and give yourself an opportunity. So, I think I did a very good job of that today.”

“No it was good, I’m ecstatic,” said Mediate. “The golf course is fantastic. You got to drive it here. I picked a couple of the right holes to miss the fairway on. The par fives, because I can’t reach them anyway, so. Hopefully, I fix that tomorrow.”

The second round tees off tomorrow at 9 a.m.
