COLESVILLE (WBNG) -- The lake at Nathaniel Cole Park in Colesville is contaminated with blue-green algae.

The Broome County Department of Parks, Recreation & Youth Services has closed the beach down due to the algae bloom. The beach cannot be reopened until the Broome County Health Department tests the water and results come back negative.

An advisory sign at the park reads that blue-green algae blooms have been spotted in the water. People are advised to not swim, boat or fish in the lake. Additionally, people are asked to keep their children and pets away from the water.

If you are exposed, you should cleanse yourself with clean water and if you experience symptoms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin or eye irritation, or difficulty breathing, you should consider medical attention.
