ENDICOTT (WBNG) -- Broome County Executive Jason Garnar presented a proposed 2025 County Budget to local officials on Thursday.

The presentation was held at En-Joie Golf Club in the Village of Endicott. His proposal created a feeling of deja vu among those in attendance as the County Executive made a similar announcement to one he had made in June.

“As we look to the future of En-Joie, Broome County stands ready to take ownership of the course from the Village of Endicott,” said Garnar.

Garnar noted the golf course’s irrigation system is outdated and needs to be replaced.

“We understand the historical and emotional significance this course holds for the village and we are committed to preserving and enhancing it for the entire community,” said Garnar. “Taking on this responsibility will help alleviate the tax burden on Endicott residents.”

While the golf course was the first topic discussed at the presentation, Garnar noted that this year’s budget is focused on improving the quality of life for current and future Broome County residents.

The budget again includes a property tax rate cut: Residents can expect a .31% cut for 2025.

About $5 million will also be earmarked for an Economic Development & Housing Fund.

“The new economic development will allow us to continue expanding housing and supporting economic development projects throughout Broome County,” said Garnar.

Safety was another major theme of the budget. Garnar said the budget will provide an additional $2 million for local law enforcement. It will also implement a new type of emergency services vehicle: One that will address a crisis at a caller’s location without the need for an ambulance.

Garnar mentioned that he hopes to upgrade 271 positions to the county workforce, a $3.9 million investment.

“As we look ahead, I am confident that Broome County is moving forward with purpose,” said Garnar. “Together we will continue to make our community a better place to live, work and raise a family.”
