One killed in birthday party shooting

SOUTHPORT, NY (WBNG) -- One person was killed in a shooting at a birthday party in the Town of Southport early Friday morning.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to 1154 Richard St. around 12:45 a.m. for a report of the shooting.

The victim was outside the residence when a suspect(s) shot them multiple times, the Sheriff’s Office said. The suspect(s) then fled in a vehicle.

The office said the victim died shortly after being shot. Their identity was not released.

As of 10:45 a.m. Friday morning, deputies did not release a description for the suspect(s) but noted that 30 to 50 people were at the party.

The office said the shooting appears to be targeted in nature.
