TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- As you make your way around Tompkins County, there’s a new resource to get you from point A to point B as easily as possible.

Tompkins County is launching the “Tompkins Transportation Scout,” which is focused on consolidating all transportation resources into one place. The app can help you find a ride and offers options for medical appointments and carpooling.

The app connects you with your neighbors or coworkers who are going to similar places, allowing you to limit your carbon footprint.

“A lot of people, especially in this county, are concerned about climate change, and I think this is a good way of measuring the impact of public transportation on those issues,” said Brooktondale resident, Ron Van Ormer.

The app also offers emergency rides home, which gives people a free Uber code in urgent situations, such as a sick carpool driver, working late, missing the bus or picking up a sick child. The new app is part of the county’s $820,000 mobility innovation grant.
