BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Anne D’Alleva will officially start her duties as Binghamton University’s eighth president on Nov. 1.

D’Alleva previously served as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Connecticut.

A native New Yorker, D’Alleva grew up in the Bronx and has a background in the arts, serving as both a faculty member in the Art History and Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at UConn, and as dean of the School of Fine Arts.

As one of her first initiatives as president, D’Alleva will host a “listening tour,” hearing from students, staff, faculty, local and state leaders, and other community members who contribute to the Binghamton University Community.

“I want to hear about broadly construed, Binghamton’s community. Hopes and dreams, aspirations for the university, concerns. That’s the only way. I can get to know the university,” said D’Alleva

D’Alleva said that the listening sessions will help her fully grasp where the university stands and what matters most to the people who walk through its doors every day.

After that, she’ll work on a strategic plan to continue the university’s growth, inspired by what she finds on the listening tour.

D’Alleva said she was drawn to Binghamton for its people, community and opportunity.

“I think the greatest asset of this university is its people. The students are absolutely extraordinary, but I think you all know that already, right? Incredibly high-quality students who are attracted to Binghamton,” said D’Alleva.
