APALACHIN, N.Y. (WBNG) -- The Broome County 4-H Spark and Nature Nomads clubs teamed up for an outdoor experience to educate the community about why it can be beneficial to go hiking with a pack of goats.

The event was held at the Waterman Conservation Education Center, where group leaders Nicole Barren and Chris Audette led participants on a hike.

The two said goats can make hiking easier.

“This is a fun activity because goats do bond well with their owners,” Barren said. “It’s a fun thing to do, but it’s also beneficial for going on a long hike when you don’t want to carry some of the gear. The goats can actually carry it for you.”

Barren and Audette also said goats can help manage invasive species.
