Residents celebrate Community Fun Day at Hawleyton Methodist Church
TOWN OF BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Friends and family gathered at Hawleyton Methodist Church for Community Fun Day.
From bounce houses to temporary tattoos and free plants, Community Fun Day was a hit for those in attendance.
“You get people you don’t see every day here, there’s families that we do get to see every day and we get to celebrate Hawleyton and Binghamton as a whole,” Member of the church Scott Mozley told 12 News.
Custodian Shelia Cline has been planning events at the church for some time now. She wanted to put this event on to thank the community for their support.
“We just want the community to know how much we appreciate them and how much we appreciate their support,” Cline said. “We like to have them involved with us. I’m all about helping others and see others have fun and keeping them safe.”
Diane Vosburg was visiting family in the area when she heard about the event. Vosburg and her husband stayed a couple of extra hours to make it to Fun Day.
“This community is working hard to make themselves a place where people are welcome, where they know there will be things for them to come and do,” Vosburg said. “Even if they aren’t apart of the church yet, they’re welcomed, they’re loved and they’re taken in by this big warm family.”
For those attending, the day held a special message.
“We should learn about everybody and everybody’s different cultures,” Member Emmajean Zelesnicar said.
