FRIENDSVILLE, Pa. (WBNG) -- Local golfers and supporters came together Sunday to help volunteer firefighters in Silver Lake raise money.

More than 160 golfers and 100 sponsors turned out for the sixth annual golf tournament fundraiser hosted by the Silver Lake Rescue Squad (SLRS) on June 7 at Tall Pines Players Club.

The tournament began at 9 a.m. and continued into the afternoon, drawing golfers and supporters from across the area.

The event raised more than $22,000 that will go towards funding SLRS’s equipment, vehicles and operating costs.

“We use this money to help supplement our tax monies that we get from the townships so we can buy new apparatus, new gear and building maintenance as needed,” said SLRS EMS Commander Edwin Bryant.

Organizers say the event plays an important role in offsetting rising expenses and ensures the department can continue meeting ongoing operational needs and stay up to date with safety requirements.

“This just really helps with making sure that we can make sure our equipment is maintained well, that we’re able to get new equipment as old equipment fades out, and new requirements come out from the [National Fire Protection Association],” Bryant said.

Non-golfers were also able to participate in the festivities, as golf drop and basket raffles were available for purchase.
