Three arrested during investigation into string of burglaries in Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, N.Y. (WBNG) -- Three people have been arrested after an investigation into a string of burglaries across Delaware County.

April 15: At around 2 p.m., Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report from the Delaware County Electric Coop, stating that a meter had been removed from an electric pole and a nearby residence showed signs of a break-in.

Upon arrival, police discovered that multiple buildings had been broken into and that several items had been damaged or stolen from the properties.

Deputies identified multiple suspects using video surveillance recordings from nearby buildings and dash cameras from passing vehicles.

April 27: Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Grand Gorge area after a driver committed several traffic violations.

Police say the driver, identified as Christine McGraw, 58, of Gilboa, appeared to be impaired by drugs. McGraw was also wanted by the New York State Police.

A passenger, identified as Leon Grizzard, 45, of Stamford, was wanted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office on multiple felony charges related to burglary.

Both McGraw and Grizzard were arrested on the scene.

Police found two ounces of crack cocaine in the vehicle.

McGraw was charged with the following

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Conspiracy
  • Criminal use of drug paraphernalia
  • Driving while impaired by drugs
  • Various traffic violations

Grizzard was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Conspiracy
  • Criminal use of drug paraphernalia
  • Burglary in the 2nd and 3rd degrees
  • Conspiracy
  • Petit larceny

June 16: While on duty in the Stamford area, deputies located another male suspect involved in the string of burglaries.

Police say that when identifying himself, the suspect provided a false name and date of birth. He was eventually correctly identified as Gage Johnson, 23, of Grand Gorge.

While attempting to arrest Johnson, he took off and ran through multiple properties, eventually running into a house and barricading himself inside.

Police used a K9 to apprehend Johnson, and he was taken into custody without further incident.

Johnson was charged with:

  • False personation
  • Obstruction of governmental administration
  • Burglary
  • Criminal mischief
  • Conspiracy
  • Petit larceny

Johnson was arraigned and held in jail without bail.

An investigation into the burglaries remains ongoing. Additional charges and additional arrests are anticipated.
